My Island Max Appeal

“Max” was professionally started in 2018 by Donal Hancock. He has flashy movement which would make him well suited for pony dressage. He has been started over poles and low jumps but does not show a real interest in jumping.

Unfortunately due to my ill health and Max maturing too small for my partner, he does not have a lot of miles under his girth. While he does have a lovely quiet nature and has been ridden by complete beginners with no hassles I will not say he is suitable for beginners or nervous riders, only due to his lack of consistent education and needing guidance in his learning from a confident, capable rider. Max has not been ridden since September 2020 due to my chronic illness.

Max has no experience being off the property apart from moving agistments and floating to and from his breakers. I therefore cannot say what he’s like off property other than he settles into new places quite well and floats decently for his limited floating education (was trucked to QLD from VIC). He has not been on trial rides since he returned from the breakers who said he seemed to really enjoy them.

Max is not afraid of dogs and has had plenty of meetings with them on the property he’s currently at from working dogs to frenchies and fluffy spoodles. He’s also not afraid of sheep or cows and shows great interest in them.

Max’s ideal owner would be located out of an itch zone (does have mild itch in the worst of summer which has been severely aggravated this year due to living on a river and the amount of rain we’ve had recently). His owner would be confident, capable of showing him the ropes and wanting a cuddly horse who thrives off attention and consistency. While he’s great to be ridden infrequently, I feel that this is an injustice to him as he shows so much talent and deserves to be more than a paddock ornament.

Please do not enquire if you are not a serious purchaser ready to buy and have thoroughly considered if Max is right for you. This is an incredibly difficult sale for my partner as Max is his first horse and the decision to part with him has not been an easy one to make. I also have limited time with juggling work, full time university and other commitments around my health.
